7 Simple Starter Recipes to get Teenage Boys cooking and baking!

Let me guess.  You’re worried your teenage boys are cooped up in the house playing gadgets, right?  Well honey, you’re not alone!

In the midst of this madness of COVID 19, a lot of mommies have gotten busy in the kitchen.  I’m not a cook myself.  I have never even baked a cake ever!  So I tried to get my hand on both.  And I dragged my two teenage boys with me.

Here I share with you 7 simple starter recipes that I used to lure my boys into the kitchen.  Believe me, none of us cook or bake.  But these make you love baking and cooking in no time!

Good ol’ Pancakes

So why not start at the simplest recipe?  Pancakes!  We got all our recipes through Google – what can be more simple than that?  We used a Homemade Pancake Mix

We added in some chocolate chips and sometimes peanut butter chips.  We used Hershey’s and Reese’s.  And you can vary your pancakes in many ways.  These certainly brightened up our mornings!

Crunch em’ Cookies!

The next simplest recipe has to be for Cookies!  Admit it, we are all cookie monsters.  Our boys certainly are!  We chose Chocolate Chip Cookies!

You can vary these too.  We made plain, choco chip and peanut butter cookies.  You can add nuts or dried fruits, or not.  Either way they are extremely yummy!

Boys love Brownies

Raffy's Brownies are awesome!

This is our all-time favorite.  Chewy Fudgy Homemade Brownies are so sinful yet are so easy to make.  You can’t make mistakes on this one.

We also baked another variety, Cream Cheese Brownies.  It’s basically the same recipe as the classic brownie but this time you mix in a cheesecake batter.  Try it!

Simple Chocolate Cake

Ryan's Simple Chocolate Cake is simply amazing!

For our first try at baking a cake, we chose the “Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Cake” but instead of using Hershey’s we used Unsweetened Cacao Powder from The Chocolate Chamber

We didn’t add chocolate bars, nor did we add buttermilk.  We used all cacao powder – that’s why it’s super simple!  But boy, is it yummy!

Burnt Basque Cheesecake

We tried our first cheesecake.  So we followed the easiest cheesecake variety there is – Burnt Basque Cheesecake.  It is quicker, less tricky and with minimal steps.

No crust needed.  Just mixing ingredients in then baking at high temperature!    Just make sure you use the right sized pan.  We used a round pan for this one.  A spring form pan is best but layer in two sheets of parchment paper.  Bake at exactly the prescribed time and temperature.  Don’t over or under bake, no matter how burnt the top looks like.  I tell you, it was a hit!

Teriyaki Chicken

This is not bad at all for Ryan's first dish.

We have to lay off the sweets sometimes so we decided to try out some dishes.  We made some Teriyaki Chicken.  We used the most sinful cut of chicken meat – thighs.  And added in some broccoli to balance things out. (Yeah, right.)

Grilled Chicken

Raffy wanted a healthier variety.

For a healthier meal, we grilled some chicken!  We used the Best Grilled Chicken recipe using chicken breasts, olive oil, garlic, black pepper and lemon.  This was a first time grilling for Raffy and Richard, would you believe?  Smoke filled our eyes but we were tearing up with laughter too.  We decided to grill more often!
